Liberty's Garrett, Upper Arlington's Thackeray awarded scholarships by CBJ Foundation

Olentangy Liberty hockey manager Brenden Garrett and Upper Arlington player Charlie Thackeray have been awarded $10,000 scholarships by the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation, the team announced Tuesday.

Garrett received the John H. McConnell Scholarship and Thackeray earned the High School Hockey Scholarship. Both are seniors.

Garrett, who has cerebral palsy, has served as Liberty's team manager since 2022 and Thackeray was a team captain for UA this season. Both have been active in service projects in the community and at their schools.

The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation has presented more than $300,000 in scholarships to central Ohio high school seniors since 2008.
