Former pill mill doctor from New Albany gets probation but must repay more than $524K

Khaled Amr, 57, a doctor from New Albany accused of running a pill mill from his medical practice in Columbus' Northeast Side, must give up his medical license and repay more than $524,000

A former doctor from New Albany who admitted running a pill mill from his Columbus medical practice has been sentenced to five years probation and has been ordered to repay more than $524,000 in restitution.

Khaled Amr, 58, of Wilkin Court, must surrender his medical license in Ohio and his federal Drug Enforcement Administration license to prescribe narcotics as part of his probation, according to the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. He also has to pay a $5,000 fine.

Amr, an anesthesiologist who received his medical degree from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, operated Columbus Pain Specialists, a pain management clinic located at 4466 Morse Road on Columbus' Northeast Side.

He was arrested in April 2019  following an investigation by the DEA and local police into excessive prescriptions of Oxycodone pills, for which he received a cash kickback. The criminal activity dated back to 2012, according to then-Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien.

Amr was charged with 28 felonies, including aggravated drug trafficking, aggravated funding of drug trafficking, theft, insurance fraud, telecommunications fraud and falsification of documents.

Amr also was accused of staging a break-in at his medical business to submit a fraudulent insurance claim, resulting in more than $1 million being paid to him.
